Sex on the beach: Is it illegal?

MOST people visit a beach to top up their tan, swim in the sea or enjoy an ice cream.

But some beach goers have other intentions – which could land them in big trouble.

Several laws are in place that mean you are NOT allowed to romp in open view at the beach.

You are NOT allowed to expose yourself in public as this could cause alarm or distress to others.

If you do this, you will be at risk of being arrested and charged for public indecency.

Rules do vary at beaches across the world so make sure to check before you get down to business.

Is sex illegal at nudist beaches?

There are hundreds of nudist beaches in the UK from Haven Cliffs to Morfa Dyffryn.

Brighton beach even has a spot specifically for the naturists.

Beach goers are free to strip naked while soaking up the sunshine – as long as they abide by the rules.

You should not assume that sex is allowed just because you are at a nudist beach.

In fact, sex in clear view of other beach goers is NOT allowed even at a naturist spot.

The same rules apply across all beaches.

If you were to have sex in front of other beach goers, you are risking a public indecency charge.

What are the rules on a nudist beach?

There are some unwritten rules you need to bare in mind before you whip your kit off at the nearby nudist beach.

  • Make sure you’re on a nudist beach – It should be clearly marked, but always double check to avoid any embarrassment.
  • Do not take pictures – Please leave your cameras at home and respect the privacy of everybody around you.
  • Do not stare – There’s no need to make anybody else feel self-conscious, just enjoy your day.
  • Apply sunscreen everywhere – Make sure you lather up to avoid burning your private parts and ruining the afternoon.
  • Keep your hands to yourself – Nobody else needs to see that. Just relax, read, tan or have a cheeky snooze in the sun.
  • Pack for the day – It’s likely that the nudist beach will be off the beaten track and away from any nearby facilities.
  • Bring some clothes – You might not like it, but you will need to put your kit on for walking to and from the nudist beach.
