Hannafore Beach

HANNAFORE beach is one of Cornwall’s hidden gems.

This beach does not get as busy as similar hotspots in the area – but is it worth a visit?

Why should I visit Hannafore beach?

This is not your stereotypical beach with golden sand, clear blue water and an ice cream truck parked up on the promenade.

Instead, Hannafore is a quiet spot that is perfect for dog walkers and those who like to explore the incredible rockpools.

It stretches from Hannafore Point to the outskirts of Looe.

It is south-east facing and is usually an incredible suntrap for those who plan to top up their tan.

But the rockpools are the main talking topic at this hotspot.

When the tide goes out, visitors will have easy access to the pools which are usually brimming with sealife.

Do not be surprised if you spot a star, crab or prawn minding their own business in the shallow water.

It is a shingle beach – but if you come when it is low tide there will be a few sandy spots.

Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round so there’s no need to leave your four-legged friend at home.

However, there is no lifeguard service in place so beach goers are urged to be extra careful when in the sea.

To access the beach, you have to venture down a sloped path from the road to the sea wall and then down the steps to the beach.

Can you park at Hannafore beach?

For those travelling by car, there are parking spaces on the road side by the sea front.

However, this can get extremely busy during the peak of the summer months.

If you are not able to park on the sea front, you should be able to find a spot in the large car park in West Looe.

There is also two smaller car parks in East Looe.

This is by the harbour – which will take around 10 minutes to walk from.

What facilities are in the local area?

For those who do not want to pack a picnic for the beach, there are two seasonally open cafes.

If you travel in Looe, you will find a number a restaurants and gift shops.

There are toilets available at Hannafore Point on the sea wall.
