Are dogs allowed on Brean Beach?

SOMERSET’S Brean Beach is just another of long coastline of stunning beaches to visit in the south west.

Unlike its neighbourly beach at Weston-super-Mare, Brean is far quieter and stretches for seven miles – but can you take your dog along with you?

Are dogs allowed on Brean Beach?

Much to the delight of owners and the pooches alike, dogs are allowed onto Brean Beach – aka Brean Down Beach – all year round.

And unlike other coastal hotspots, there are no restrictions for canines on the sandy shores at the Somerset village.

However, National Trust do advise that you keep your dog in your sights with sinking mud a possibility.

To make the most of your time at Brean Beach, why not stay at the Sandy Glade Holiday Park from just £53 a night – it is just ten minutes from the beach and pets are allowed. The perfect spot!

Are there any restrictions for dogs in Brean Down?

If you take your dog beyond the beach to explore the incredible nature nearby, National Trust insist that your four-legged pooches are kept on a short lead at all times, especially due to the cliffs.

Meanwhile in the open countryside, they must be on a short lead from March 1 to July 31 with rare birds nesting and laying their eggs nearby.

And if you fancy popping to the cafe, bear in mind that dogs are not allowed inside – yet there are water bowls to keep them hydrated.

Things to consider when taking your dog to the beach

Dogs love a nice trip to the seaside, just like their human companions.

But there are a number of rules and tips to consider when heading to the beach.

These include:

  • Check with beach management to see if dogs are allowed
  • Take poo bags to clear up their mess
  • Bring a lead – dogs have to be on a leash on some beaches at all times
  • Avoid the big crowds
  • Consider some people may not like dogs
  • Take plenty of fresh water and a bowl for your dog
  • Take a first aid kit in case your dog becomes injured
  • Check for local vets in case of emergency
  • Make sure your dog is wearing their collar and ID tag
  • If they are wear a GPS tracker, make sure it is fully charged
  • Take spare towels to dry them
  • Keep an eye on your dog at all times
